Glossary

Anti Quorum Sensing (Anti-QS)

The use of compounds to disable microbial quorum sensing.  Anti-QS compounds interfere with the microbes' ability to detect signaling molecules.

Auto Inducer

Signaling molecules that are self produced by microbial communities to initiate individual behaviors, such as pathogenesis, the emission of light or creation or dissolution of biofilms.

Auto Inductive Programming

The use of auto inducers to control the behavior of microbes by sequentially switching on or off various microbial functions.

Microbial Informatics

The science of structuring multiple chemical signals, called auto inducers, for the purpose of flexibly programming microbial biomasses to perform pre-determined functions.

Microbial Programming

Alternate name for Auto Inductive Programming.

Molecular Signaling

The process of inter and intra-species bacterial communication.

Quorum Sensing

The self control of collective behavior in microbes through the production and detection of auto-inducers.

QS Signaling

The use of signalling molecules in microbial collectives to effect quorum sensing.

QS Programming

Alternate name for Auto Inductive Programming.

Signaling Molecule

Any of a variety of molecules used to initiate quorum sensing (see auto inducer).
